3rd Post from The Crime of the Century-murder in a small town
On October 11, Dale walked into the police station and told Chief Carter that Annette and Todd might be in a cabin in Branchland, Virginia. According to the chief, he used this time for another interrogation opportunity. Once seated, each time the chief brought up the subject of Annette moving from the Johnston trailer and being on birth control, Dale became “irritated and hostile.”
When the chief told Dale “kids grow up and leave the nest,” he said Dale grew angry. Dale denied knowing why Annette moved from his trailer and into the Shultz home with most of her belongings. Dale admitted he and Annette had “some personal problems,” but they could have worked them out, saying, “it was that Shultz boy puttin’ notions in her head, turnin’ her against her maw and me.”
