4th Post from “Deadly Rival” one story in “Twisted Love”
The atmosphere inside the police station that day was described as “very solemn.” The chief said employees went through the motions to complete their jobs, saying, everyone was affected by the murders/suicide.
The chief recalled how much of an influence Randy had on others when he received a Face book message Tuesday from a former Turkish exchange student who met Randy during his stay in Lancaster.
He said Randy was one officer who acted as tour guide and participated in a tour of the police building for international exchange students. Up to twenty-five kids would tour the station. The chief said Randy had the ability to engage those children, so well, that the foreign student still remembered him and when learned of the news, knew exactly who Randy was.
Fellow officers said Randy was humble about winning several awards within the police department. In Randy’s personal file, one found small notes, cards and letters on official stationary, saying the same thing-how he went out of his way to help somebody.
When interviewed, a Lancaster Municipal Court Judge spoke of Randy’s ability to make a positive impression on everyone he met. He said he met Randy when the officer worked on the court security unit, calling him an “absolute pleasure.”
“He was a generous individual,” said the judge. He recalled how Randy became personally involved in helping drug addicts; often having deep conversations with people struggling with drugs, and backed it up with a great smile.
Commander of the Fairfield-Hocking Major Crimes Unit, described Randy as a compassionate person good at his job. He said Randy cared for others and actually did help many.
Kevin and Stephanie’s niece said she believed Kevin snapped that night. She believed when Kevin saw Randy at Stephanie’s home early that morning, he became heartbroken.
