“You’re lying, Terry. I ran a background check. Your mother abandoned you at a local Laundromat when you were six. You went from foster home to foster home. You live an unusual lifestyle, and you subscribe to mercenary magazines. You’re just the type to commit murder,” Harmon said, working hard to retain self-control.
Studying the arrogant agent who wanted to nail him for the double homicide, Terry stopped and abruptly faced Harmon. “Yeah! I had a hard time growin’ up. Lots of kids get dumped by their maws, but that don’t make ‘em killers.”
“No, Terry, it doesn’t. But how did you deal with your mother’s deserting you and marrying a black man?”
“Damn it . . .I hated her for it!”
“Do you hate all the women who reject you?”
“All women are whores. Some jest hide it better.”
“I’ll be watching you, Terry. You’re involved somehow.” Harmon said a quick goodbye to Jane and stalked off.
