CWWH brings together writers, producers, managers and agents. It is one of the most accessible and affordable conferences of its kind. In attendance are producers in search of their next project, film agents ready to take on new clients and pro-screenwriters prepared to teach novelists the art of screenwriting. It is not an option for everyone to make a trip to L.A. and get themselves in front of a producer or film agent. At this conference, you will not be competing with hundreds of writers. We provide an atmosphere of support and access to industry professionals.
What Attendees are Saying:
“Connecting Writers with Hollywood was an excellent conference. As a full time, indie published novelist, I was anxious to see what opportunities were available in Hollywood. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of professionals we had the opportunity to pitch our ideas and existing work to. The sessions were well organized, and everyone I had the pleasure of pitching to was very encouraging. The presentations given by the professionals working in the film industry were excellent. My second pitch of the conference led to a lunch meeting with Shawn West of the Wayne Agency, and an offer for representation which I happily accepted. Very few conferences deliver the opportunities that CWWH2017 did, and I strongly encourage writers at any stage of their career to attend.”

Interview with J.D. Dewitt by Holly Hewson for TRS
HH: JD, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. We’re talking about Connecting Writers With Hollywood 2018. First, can you tell us how this annual event came about?
JD: Thank you for the opportunity to share about this film and literary conference!
At an early age, I remember shutting myself in my room and reading. I would devour books so fast that my mom couldn’t keep up with me between buying my favorite novels or the library. So, I have a huge love and admiration for authors. Currently, I am the Director of Development at 5×5 Media (5x5media.tv) and have worked in the entertainment industry for over a decade. My favorite thing to do is to work with authors, partnering with them and providing opportunities that make sense. So as to your question about how it came about… ? My love of the written word is coupled with my love of TV and film and therefore, I’ve brought them together in a unique way.
Born and raised in Spokane, WA, I am personally invested in growing our creative community. Our region is surrounded by Seattle, Boise and Portland, each city bears a ton of untapped talent. Not every writer can make the connections or even the expense, to get in front of industry professionals, so I bring the experts to them!
Bringing Connecting Writers with Hollywood to my hometown broadens the opportunity for writers to bring their material directly in front of film agents, directors and producers.
HH: Who would benefit from this event?
JD: Both established and unpublished authors and screenwriters. Concept is what Hollywood is looking for, you don’t have to be in print in order to be in the running. Come with the best logline ever! and gain some interest.
HH: What makes this event unique among similar offerings?
JD: Our conference is intentionally designed to have an intimate atmosphere… meaning, we cap off the attendance to 150 and the presenters we bring are aware that they need to be accessible. We have developed Connect Groups, where attendees will be in a small circle hosted by our presenters. This is a close-knit discussion and a chance for genuine Q&A, a great opportunity to learn from the experts.
HH: What sort of topics are presented here?
JD: — to name a few… Screenwriting Courses by Dave Trottier and Diane Drake What to Expect When a Producer is Interested in your Book? What can a Film Agent/Literary Manager do for you? How to Create the Perfect Hook/Logline for Hollywood Packaging – The Process from Concept, Development, Production & Distribution
HH: What are your favorites?
JD: Aside from Connect Groups, I’m pleased to share that we will be hosting a Live Script Table Read in front of an audience, including Dave Trottier (author of THE SCREENWRITER’S BIBLE). A director and professional actors are hired for this event – it’s a wonderful opportunity for a writer to gain feedback!
Let’s not forget the pitch sessions! Being able to pitch to Shari Smiley, who negotiated the films GONE GIRL, DEVIL WEARS PRADA and WILD is a writer’s dream! And for inspirational authors, we have Rich Peluso, the Executive V.P. of Sony’s AFFIRM division (he’s actually the one who green lights projects). David Katsman of LINK Management, Jarrod Murray of Epicenter are among others taking pitches.
HH: What do you personally love about CWWH 2018?
JD: I created CWWH for the purpose of supporting a writer on their journey, wherever they are at. Being able to see a writer’s dream come to pass is the ultimate reward for what I do.
HH: Any other tips or information for those who may wish to attend?
JD: Registering as early as you can will optimize your chance to pitch to your top choices and reserve your spot among the 150. Study out the bio of the presenter you wish to share your material with, make sure you know what they represent, direct or produce. From our website www.cwwh2018.com please check out the testimonials from presenters and past attendees.
On a side note, Spokane is absolutely beautiful in June. We are in the heart of downtown with many restaurants and our gorgeous park, all within walking distance.
