Dreamtime by Shirley Martin

It’s safe to say that everyone dreams. In fact, if you didn’t dream, you might well go insane. Some people believe that dreams are the brain’s filing cabinet, throwing out some memories and keeping others. Just because you don’t remember your dream, doesn’t mean you don’t make these nighttime trips.
The psychic Sylvia Browne wrote a book on dreams, appropriately titled “Book of Dreams.” Here she lists five types of dreams.
1. The prophetic dream
2. The release dream
3. The wish dream
4. The information or problem-solving dream
5. Astral visits

Let’s deal with prophetic dreams for now, although astral visits is an intriguing subject to save for another time. For as long as people have dreamed, many have dreamed of future events. We recall the Book of Genesis, in which Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh’s dream. Joseph foretold that Egypt would experience seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine. He warned the Pharoah to set aside a certain amount of grain, so that there would be enough to feed the people during the seven years of famine.
It’s amazing how many people dreamed of burning “columns” and darkened skies prior to September 11, 2001. Sylvia Browne recounts several of these episodes in her “Book of Dreams.” How terrifying it must have been for these people to see their dreams come to life on national TV.
Many of us have prophetic dreams. Years ago, when my youngest son was in kindergarten, I had a neighbor friend whose son was also in kindergarten, so we walked them to school together, just a few blocks from our homes. I remember telling my neighbor of a dream I’d had the night before. It was such a vivid dream I woke up with tears in my eyes. In this dream, a small plane crashed and burst into flames. My neighbor and I discussed the dream for a while, both of us saying we hadn’t seen anything in the newspaper about this tragedy. About fifteen years later that was how my friend’s husband died. Taking flying lessons, he was flying solo when he lost control of the plane. The plane crashed and burst into flames. The dream haunts me to this day.
Let’s shift gears now and imagine that your dreams take you to a distant land, a world beyond time and space. This is what happens to Kaylee in my latest fantasy romance, “The Door to Forever.” Her dreams take her to an alternate world, a country of peace and harmony. Having suffered an attempted rape as a young teenager, Kaylee is afraid of men and has no hope of a happy relationship with any member of the opposite sex. She wishes she could stay in this magical land of peace and harmony. Then she meets Logan. Will he be the one to change her mind?
