Kayelle Allen here! Welcome back! I have some exciting news. My Antonello Brothers sci fi series has a new book on the way, revealing the secrets behind Senth’s adoption by the powerful Luc Saint-Cyr.
For readers who loved At the Mercy of Her Pleasure and For Women Only, and the prequel, Bro, A Stolen Heart will offer new insights and reveal never-before shared secrets. Why did Luc adopt Senth? What was the half-human, half-feline boy like at age three?
The Antonello Brothers – A Stolen Heart
This Antonello Brothers story, A Stolen Heart, will not only tell how Luc came to adopt Senth, but also how he met Shohn Lexius, his security liaison at idBot. Pietas makes a grand entrance, since he is a major character in this volume. The Antonello Brothers are (so far as anyone knows) Senth and Khyff. At the time of A Stolen Heart, no one knew anything about Khyff yet, though they will discover Senth has a half-brother. The boys don’t meet until Bro.
I am inspired by art so once I had the premise for the story, I went looking for a picture that would work as a toddler-age Senth. When I found the right one, I commissioned it as a cover with the artist Germancreative on Fiverr. The image is courtesy of Gelpi, at Depositphotos. Is this little guy adorable or what?
Here’s a snippet from the work in progress (I’m about 3/4 of the way finished). In this scene, Luc is waiting in the office of the headmistress of the Thieves’ Guild Academy, checking out info on a missing girl, when in runs three-year-old Senthys Antonello.
Upon hearing a small thump, Luc turned and fastened his gaze on a toddler hiding just inside the door. The boy had flattened himself against the wall as if escaping a monster.
The child could not be more than three. His chest heaved like he’d been running.
With an unreadable expression, the little one looked up at him in silence, but Luc felt himself being measured. His gaze never strayed from Luc’s, and volumes passed between them in the silence.
At the sound of heels clicking on the tile floor in the hallway, the child trembled, hands at his mouth, his eyes filling with tears.
Luc motioned to the boy, directing him to hide behind the door, not against the wall.
The child dashed behind it and squatted, making himself small.
A woman in the black robes of a teacher stepped inside.
“Mr. Saint-Cyr. Did a child come in here?”
He measured near his knees with one hand. “About this tall? A mass of unruly curls? Big blue eyes?”
Behind the door, those blue eyes grew round, filled with tears. The lower lip trembled.
“That’s him. Where is he?”
Luc had no quarrel with lying. He pointed. “I saw him run past the door, going that way.”
After she left, Luc stooped and beckoned to the child. “It’s safe to come out now. She’s gone.”
Sticking one finger in his mouth, the boy crept forward and peeked around the door. He made a beeline for Luc and threw himself into his arms, where he sobbed.
“Shh.” Luc picked him up and stood. “It’s all right. No one will hurt you.”
The boy hiccupped, crying. Half his weight must have been that mop of ringlets. It took no strength to support him.
“I have you.” Luc perched on a chair and placed the child on his lap. “You’re safe now.”
The boy curled up against him, clutching Luc’s jacket in tight fists. Even Luc, whose experience with children could be recorded on his palm, could tell these tears reflected genuine relief. The boy had been terrified.
Monster chasing him indeed. What had that woman done to him?
Any reader familiar with Luc Saint-Cyr in my other books knows he is going to dig into that and find out.
