Kate Elton Officially Named CEO of HarperCollins UK After Interim Tenure

After a brief period as interim CEO, Kate Elton has officially been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of HarperCollins UK, following the sudden and unexplained departure of former CEO Charlie Redmayne earlier this month.

Elton, a long-time publishing leader within HarperCollins, previously served as Executive Publisher for Harper’s Adult Commercial division, overseeing a string of bestsellers and spearheading the company’s expansion in both digital and audio markets. Her steady leadership and strategic vision have earned her widespread respect across the publishing industry.

Brian Murray, CEO of HarperCollins globally, confirmed the news in an internal announcement, praising Elton’s leadership and contributions:

“I have had the pleasure of working closely with Kate on our global publishing projects and have seen personally her thoughtful approach and steady hand. Under her leadership, the UK Adult Commercial divisions have achieved tremendous success, transforming Harper Fiction into a powerhouse of bestsellers and driving significant revenue growth,” Murray said.

He added, “Kate is a passionate advocate for our authors and books. She combines exceptional business acumen with the ability to build collaborative teams while consistently driving innovation across digital, audio, and publishing initiatives. I look forward to working with her in this new role and congratulate her on this well-earned achievement.”

Elton’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for HarperCollins UK, as the division continues to expand its global footprint and adapt to the changing dynamics of digital publishing. Her leadership is expected to provide both continuity and renewed direction as the company moves forward.
