Whips, Chains & Semicolons: Writing Sex & Kink with Stella Harris by Autocrit

Turn up the heat… safely.

Intimacy expert Stella Harris joins us once again for her unique Writing Sex & Kink workshop. From the bare basics, to the more sensitive sides of research and word use that doesn’t come across as gratuitous or distasteful, Stella will be your perfect guide to engaging with wilder-than-usual content without getting it very, very wrong.

Session Date/Time:

Tuesday, February 3rd at 6:00 PM ET

BDSM has obvious allure, but media often gets it wrong (making experienced kinksters cringe). Sure, kink titillates with taboo, perhaps showing characters are dark, edgy, risk-takers. But BDSM isn’t just for leather-clad dungeon goers. Part of what’s sexy about kink is that it’s a way to experiment with new things. And kink presents some wonderful tools for playing with vulnerability and enhancing intimacy and connection.

In this class we’ll cover the basics of writing about kink & BDSM, from choosing terms and language to showing character development from the dungeon to the bedroom. And because BDSM is a vast playground, this class will give an overview of common kinks from impact to bondage and beyond. We’ll also discuss safety, consent, and negotiation as elements you may want to work into your stories.

Writing from personal experience is valuable, but you can’t try everything. So we’ll also cover ways to research communities and activities you may not be familiar with.
